I Hope He Doesn't Lick Her Like a Lollipop

Saturday I went to see Framing Hanley for the first time. They come to Little Rock pretty often. I've wanted to see them for years, but somehow each time other plans came up that made it impossible for me to make it to the show.

There was only one other band that went on before Framing Hanley.  I think they were locals.  The band didn't have a singer...just instruments.  I do not like music without words; I need lyrics.

I didn't even catch their name...but whatever it is, I know it involved the word elephant.

By this point you have probably figured out that I didn't like them.  Their set seemed to last forever and I was bored out of my mind.   I know that is harsh; but it's the truth.  I can't lie.  I never have been able to.

It was finally time for Framing Hanley. They are really good live.  I am most definitely going to be at their shows when they come to Arkansas from now on.  I loved it!

Plus...let's be honest Nixon (lead singer) is really pretty to look at and he is super sweet as well.

I don't own any of their albums...yet.  Although I have been listening to them on Spotify and Pandora for years.  Believe me though I will be buying all of them as soon as I possibly can.

For Christmas I wanted a new dSLR camera, (Canon Rebel SL1) I was able to get it a little early.  I ended up taking it with me to shoot the show.  I'm glad I did, because it helped me realize that the dSLR that I already have was a much better fit for me. (Canon Rebel T1i)

Nixon:

This is one of my favorite shots that I took that night.  There are a lot more, to see them click here. Give my page a 'Like" while you are over there if you want to keep up with my photography.

Before Framing Hanley performed one of their songs Nixon said; 'This one's about my grandma...  (he pauses while everyone says awe) ...she's a bitch" everyone had a laugh at that.  Turns out the song "about his grandma" was their remake of Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" I sure hope he doesn't lick his grandma. Haha!

In case you, for some strange reason have never heard the Framing Hanley version of "Lollipop"  here you go.

with Nixon and Ryan of Framing Hanley.

If I don't write before then...Merry Christmas! I hope you have a great one.

New Hinder

Yesterday Hinder released their first new song since the replacement of the band's former frontman Austin Winkler.

When I first heard the news that Austin was leaving, I wasn't happy at all. I didn't think
they would ever be able to find someone who could fill his shoes. Hearing this new song I was proven wrong.

"Hit the Ground"

New frontman Nolan Neal definitely has what it takes to be a part of Hinder in my opinion. I love the new song. I've been listening to it over and over again. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Use Me Til There's Nothing Left to Give

So you know my favorites that I always post about; The Revolutioners.  If you answered no to that, well then you obviously never pay any attention to me at all.  I'm constantly going on about how great they are.

Now they have a lyrics video for their song "All The Same"

See, I told you they were great.  You should go download their album "Crooks" it's on iTunes.  They also have an EP on there as well. You should get that too. That way, in December when you go see them while they are on tour with Saving Abel.  You'll know all their songs and you can sing along.

Yeah...they are going on tour with Saving Freakin' Abel, isn't that exciting?!?!?!

Yes, yes it is!  I'm so proud of them, they totally deserve this.

Except I'm gonna miss them while they are gone, but that's ok,I'll just have to go on a road trip to see them on at least one of the tour stops.  There isn't one in Little Rock, which isn't fair...but whatever.

-laurenmikael

PS: ...and incase you live under a rock and don't know who Saving Abel is, let me help you out.

"...Man That Squirrel is Getting Close"

A few of my friends were sharing this post about ADD on their Facebook pages this morning, it's to help those who don't have it understand what their friends and family who do live with it are going through a little better.

As someone who has ADD (never been officially diagnosed, but trust me. I do.)  I'm sure if you've ever met me it's pretty obvious.) I can relate to everything in that post that I linked above.

After reading it earlier I was reminded of the song "A.D.D" by Loomis and the Lust.

(Official Music Video):

I love how they randomly show a clip of Bret Michaels in the video.

I saw Will Loomis a few years ago when he opened for Lovers and Liars, and Hawthorne Heights at Juanita's.  I like him.  He's a nice guy.

Another Day with Doodlebug

Today I am babysitting  Doodlebug, which means today will be filled with episodes of My Little Pony, Pizza Rolls; all accompanied with the lovely music of SafetySuit as well as Ryan Star. Sounds like a pretty good day if you ask me. (Well, we could switch the My Little Pony for Dexter in my opinion) but it turns out that shows about serial killers who chop their victims into pieces are not suitable for 6 year old little girls.

I love this silly little goober though.

Questions You Wish You Could Ask Your Friends With Kids

Haha! This video, I love it! Exactly how I feel.  Don't get me wrong I love my Doodlebug; that's the beauty of nieces and/or nephews...you can hang out with them and what not, but then give them back whenever you are totally over all of the annoyingness

Meeting Bret Michaels

Hmm....it's been a long time.

Friday I went to see Bret Michaels again. (This was my second time.)  It was awesome! Pictures will be coming soon.  I actually had the chance to meet him this time.  He is really sweet.  Love that guy!

He said I was beautiful and said I would be put on the guest list for his show in Fort Smith in a few weeks.  I would love if that actually happened, but I don't know if it will.  We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

I hope you are all doing well.  Really want to start posting on here more often,

"Just Breathe...the Midnight Air Will Do You Well"

Well, I guess my whole writing more often thing didn't work out very well did it? Haha!

May 29th I saw Hawthorne Heights at Juanita's.  I got the chance to sit in on a pre-show acoustic set.  They sang "Saying Sorry", "Rescue Me" and "Ohio Is For Lovers."  I wish I could have recorded "Saying Sorry" that is one of my favorites, but my phone ran out of space. I did record "Rescue Me and "Ohio Is For Lovers" though.

                                                                         "Rescue Me" (acoustic):

You might need to turn your volume up for these videos; he isn't using a microphone and his voice doesn't seem to carry well.

"Ohio Is For Lovers" (acoustic):

Sorry this one turned out blurry; my phone wasn't wanting to focus.

It was good to see them again.  It had been a while since the last time.

They told me that they are going on tour with The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus; unfortunately I don't think they'll be making a stop in Little Rock for that tour...which makes me sad, because I love both of those bands and it would be awesome to see them play together; maybe that will happen one of these days.

Hawthorne Heights put on a great show (as they always do.)  To celebrate the fact that their first album "The Silence In Black and White" was released 10 years ago they performed the whole album and even had special merch made.

JT:

Micah:

To see photos from this show visit Lauren Mikael Photography on Facebook here

Here is a picture of JT and I after the show.

I have been wanting another tattoo and I'm thinking about getting the words just breathe...

I think it would be a good one to get, since I worry a lot, to calm down I always listen to "Breathe" by Ryan Star and in the lyrics he says "Just breathe; take the world off your shoulders, put it on me"

"Breathe" (Official Music Video):

The first line of "Rescue Me" by Hawthorne Heights is "Just breathe, the midnight air will do you well" (which explains the title of this post.)
"Rescue Me" (Official Music Video):

The words just breathe mean a lot to me for many different reasons.  Now I just have to decide on a good placement for the tattoo.

Hi, I'm Not Dead!

It's been a while, my bad! I'd like to blame it on the fact that I moved, but that's no excuse because that was a little over a month ago.  I'm tired of this whole moving thing. Feels like I do that a lot.   Hopefully I'll stay in this place for a long time.

The real reason I haven't written, is cause well...let's face it.  I'm lazy.  Seriously it's true.  Trying to work on that.

Working on changing a lot in my life right now.  Things like eating better, being a happier,  more positive and more confident person.  It's hard, but I'm trying.  It's gonna take time; but I'll get there.

The whole eating better thing is going pretty good, I've been making green smoothies every day (frozen fruit, orange juice and kale or broccoli.) Yeah, I know it sounds gross...but as long as you get the fruit to kale or broccoli ratio right; all you taste is the fruit, while still getting in all the healthiness of the greens.

As far as being happier, confident  and  more positive,  those things still need a bit of work.  I am really bad about being all "poor pitiful me, I have a disability" and letting that get me really depressed.  I shouldn't be that way.  There are so many people out there that are dealing with a lot more problems than I have to.  So, I can't walk. Oh well.   It could be worse.  I'm still alive and I have amazing friends and  family.

So, anyways.  On a happier note.  Last night I went to see The Revolutioners (shocking, I know...haha!) They haven't played in a like a month.  It was good to see them again.  I also got the chance to spend time with a friend who I haven't got to spend a lot of time with in a while. It was a good night.

That's pretty much all I have to say right now.  Gonna try to start posting on here more, I skipped a whole month and have a lot of stuff I could have written about, so I gotta catch up.

"Crooks" Album Release

So, I accidentally scheduled a few blog posts to publish themselves for the past few days, I also forgot to finish writing said blog posts before they went up on the site, so if you saw them...sorry about that. My bad.  Being sick has ruined me.  Finally getting better!

I also forgot to share the last three tracks off of "Crooks" with you, so here they are:

"Like A Knife"

This is another one of the tracks off of their EP that they re-recorded for "Crooks"

It's another favorite of mine.

The next track is "Friction" this is another one that I pretty much learned just from seeing them play live...I knew even then that I was really gonna like this one, I was really excited to finally get to hear the recorded version of it.

The closing track for the album is "Runaway"  this song was recorded acoustic.  It's a good one.  Another one of those that sort of show you a softer side of The Revolutioners.

I love this album; it's awesome from start to finish.  I'm really proud of them.  I know they worked really hard  on it.

Since I had been anticipating the release of this album for such a long time, it seemed like it took them forever to finish it, but now that it's finally here...I can honestly say that it was definitely worth the wait.

They had the album release show on Saturday, it was great.  They pretty much played all of "Crooks" and even added in a cover of The Beatles "Helter Skelter" they killed it (and I mean that in a good way!)

"Helter Skelter" by The Beatles:

After the show a few friends and I went to Denny's with a band that also played the show that night, they are called Siversa check them out.

If you know me, you probably know that pancakes are pretty much my favorite thing...ever! You guys, Denny's has these new peanut buttercup pancakes, they are amazing and I think I am probably gonna have to go have some more of them tonight, because...well they are really good and I didn't finish mine that night...well technically it was morning, seeing as it was like 4:00 A.M.

Oh and here is a picture I took at the show with my phone, thought it turned out pretty awesome.

"...She Said I've Been Waitin' for So Long"

I felt too sick to write yesterday.  I feel a little better today, finally don't have fever; this better be gone by Saturday ("Crooks" album release at Juanita's) I never get sick, I don't like this...I turn into a big whiny baby.

Yesterday's song was "Skinny Little Bones" been listening to this one for a while, bought it off iTunes about a year ago.

Bet you can guess that I really like this one.  As I've said before I like everything they've done.   That is pretty much how I do with any band; either love everything they've released or hate it all...

Today's song is "Glitter King vs. the Rock 'N Roller"  This one is my favorite track off the album, I know I said "Razors and the World" was, but I'm talking about favorites as far as out of songs I didn't know previously.

It's a dirty little song, probably explains why I like it so much.

'...If That Line Makes Me Break, Then Let Me Break"

Track 8 is "The Line"

This one is a really good one, I like it because it shows a softer more sensitive side of them.

Today is the first beautiful day in a long time and I can't even go out and enjoy it, because I feel really sick, don't even feel like moving to be honest, which explains why the post is up late.  I'm just gonna watch Netflix all day, and then catch up on the season premiere of Once Upon A Time from last night.

Hope you are having a better day than I am.

"...Baby Nobody Likes You"

Seventh track off of 'Crooks" is "Feelin' So Good"

I like this one, it's, well...so good.

I gotta get better at this whole daily blogging thing, I'm not used to it.  I'm running out of things to say, I should say more about this song other than it's good, but I got nothing.  Going through a bit of writer's block I guess. Hoping that goes away soon.

We Try to Tell Ourselves to Be the Things We Should...but It's Hard Enough Being Me"

Today's song "Razors and the World" is most definitely one of my all time favorite Revolutioners tracks.  I  love the lyrics.  It's a song I could listen to over and over again and never get tired of.

I myself however am very tired.  Stayed up a little later than I should have last night, so I'm gonna try to take a nap, sleep hasn't really been my friend much in the past few years.   There was one point in my life about  two years ago, where I didn't sleep for 10 whole nights/days straight. (yeah, I'm serious.)  It was awful!

"...She Says I'm Overrated"

Fifth track off of "Crooks" is "Pop Rocks"

This is probably one of The Revolutioners most popular songs.  It gets people's attention. I think a lot of people's attraction to the song is because they are thinking "Wow! He really just said that?!" Awesome!"

If you are wondering "Said What?"

Well then give it a listen and you'll see what I mean:

I love "Pop Rocks " but to be honest I've heard it so much that I'm kind of over it now.

I'll let friends listen to this song sometimes to show them what the band is like and since I'm being quite I can really sit and focus on the song and this is what goes on in my head while it's playing:

"My God, this is so repetitive"

"Is the repetitiveness on their nerves too?"

"Oh, good...now they've started singing a long...that means they like it, right?"

No one has ever told me they hated it, they always say that it was awesome and
eventually end up wanting to come with me to see them play live.

I will always love "Pop Rocks" because it is the first song of theirs that I knew, but in my opinion they have so many other songs that are better at showcasing their true talents.

You're A long Way from Home Apollo

Today's track from The Revolutioners is "Apollo"

This is easily one of my favorites. Although I love all 13 of them..."Apollo" is in my top 4 as far as favorites goes.

Listen to it, you know you want to:

See, told you.  It's really good isn't it?

I don't even really have words to describe how much I love this song.  His voice just sounds so good on this track (well, it always sounds good...but you know. Whatever.)

On an unrelated note, I saw this picture on Facebook and thought it was hilarious...so I figured I'd share

This is apparently an actual sign in Pine Bluff:

Well, if that doesn't get rid of the criminals...I don't know what will.

It's All The Same My Friend; It's All The Same in the End

The third track off of "Crooks" is entitled "All The Same"

I've pretty much been to every show The Revolutioners have ever played (excluding that time they played in Conway and then whenever they play in Fayetteville/Fort Smith or Shreveport...but I mean I can't be everywhere, geez, just let it go, I try my best to be at all of them.)

Since I've seen them so many times, even when they play material that hasn't been released yet, I eventually pick up on most of the words at some point; which is what happened with "All The Same"

I picked up on the chorus pretty quickly.  I like it, it's a good little song.  Take a listen:

"All The Same"

I don't really know what else to say...so I guess I'll end it here.  Hope you all have a great day and I'll be back tomorrow for the next track.  It's a really good one, you'll like it.  If you don't, well you pretty much have horrible taste in music.

New Urban Decay and Revolutioners Song of the Day

So, remember yesterday I told you about The Revolutioners releasing a song off their new album everyday until the whole thing is released on March 15th? Yeah, well today they released "Lumen"

I'm pretty sure I remember them saying once that "Lumen" was inspired by the TV show Dexter.  I have recently started watching Dexter on Netflix and I totally see how this could have inspired "Lumen"

It's a great show, if you've never watched it...well, you should.  Phil told me sometime last year to start watching it, that I would really like it; he's right. I do.  I should have started watching it sooner.  I think I'm only on episode 8 right now.

Anyways..."Lumen"

I've been listening to "Lumen " for a long time now, I found it on their Reverbnation page, probably a year ago, but it's nice to finally get to hear the final cut of it.

Ok, now on to something that doesn't involve music at all.

Urban Decay (which if you know me at all, you know that is my favorite makeup brand ever)  is coming out with a new eyeshadow palette on March 18th.  UD is famous for all of their "Naked" palettes, which are, well, skintone-ish, neutral colors.  That is fine for some people.  What about the people like me...who like ridiculously bright, fun colors?

Well we are the people who this palette is for.  It's called the "Electric" palette.

Borrowed this picture from the lovely Kandee Johnson over at www.kandeej.com, I hope she doesn't mind.

I am totally excited about this palette.  I want it now!

Everyone who has been to my house and seen my makeup collection, knows that I have plenty of palettes and probably think that I don't need this one; but that is where they are wrong.  I definitely need it!

I'm gonna go watch Dexter now.  See you tomorrow for the next Revolutioners song of the day and whatever else I feel like talking (err writing) about.

Shows, Tacos and New Songs

The Revolutioners have their first full-length album coming out on March 15th.  It's called "Crooks"

It's awesome; trust me...I know.  Cause they gave me the first copy ever on my birthday.  (February 20th) cause they are just super nice like that.

Starting today, they are releasing a new track each day until the album releases on the 15th.

The first song to be released is "Five" listen to it below:

Saturday they played a show in memory of Phil's friend, Todd Mills.  You know those ridiculously delicious Doritos  Locos  Tacos from Taco Bell? Yeah, Todd came up with the idea for those.  Brilliant.  I'm addicted to them.  Cool Ranch is my favorite.

Todd passed away this past Thanksgiving.

Well, this is getting kinda depressing. so let's make it happy again.  Here's a video I recorded from said show of The Revolutioners preforming "Pop Rocks"  It turned out really good...you should watch it:

To prove to you that I really do love those tacos, here is a photo I took the day the Cool Ranch version was released, which was 360 days ago, according to my instagram; with this statement attached:

So yeah...I got one of these things today. It's pretty much the best taco ever! #doritoslocos.#taco #TacoBell #cool

Oh and here's a picture from my instagram of Phil from the show Saturday, cause like, why not?

I really want a Cool Ranch taco now...I've had 3 of them in the past like ...3 days; so I probably shouldn't.

Second That Emotion

Last night I recorded Phil of The Revolutioners singing "Second That Emotion" by Smokey Robinson at karaoke.

My phone didn't catch the first line of the song; but other than that it is a really good video.

She Loves Rock 'N Roll, They Say it's Satan's Tongue

Gong to karaoke a lot lately has recently reminded me of a song I used to listen to when I was younger.  "Big Star" by Kenny Chesney.

(Oficial Music Video):

I'm not really a fan of Country anymore.  I don't like today's Country music; it's either too twangy or too pop-ish   I prefer stuff from the 90's and early 2000's.

Tought I'd share a few of my favorites with you.  I love Shania Twain, so basically any song by her

"Man! I Feel Like A Woman" (Official Music Video)

"That Don't Impress Me Much"

I also really like The Dixie Chicks

"Traveling Soldier"

I sang "Traveling Solider" at karaoke the other night (I'm sure it was horrible) I wish I could sing, but I can't.  I a lot of people in my family can sing.  I'm really jealous

My Uncle has a Doctorate in Music, he taught the lead singer of The Dixie Chicks,  Natalie Maines

"Not Ready To Make Nice" (Official Music Video)

"Goodbye Earl" (Official Music Video)

I like Trisha Yearwood too.

"She's In Love With The Boy" (Official Music Video)

"How Do I Live"

"Wild One" (Official Music Video)

Title of this post comes from "Wild One" by Trisha Yearwood.  I figured it would be a very fitting title...cause well, do I really need to explain; I mean come on...

Uptown Girl

I've become a pretty big Billy Joel fan, thanks to Drake Bell

Phil from The Revolutioners covered Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" the other night when he was DJ-ing karaoke.  I always like karaoke nights, because I get to hear Phil's take on songs other than his own.

I didn't catch the beginning of the song, but I got most of it.

I'm Done with All Your Bitchcraft

Recently Drake Bell (yes, that one) released a new song.

"Bitchcraft"   I'm really liking it. I'm a big Drake Bell fan; have been since The Amanda Show days. Glad his music is starting to ease over to more of an adult side.  I am also very proud of him for being one of the few child stars not to go bat shit crazy.

I saw Drake play in Little Rock (in 2012...I think) he was amazing.  Mixed in a lot of Beatles and Billy Joel into his set.  Two of my favorites.  Bell is really a  talented man.  Great diver too.  He was on a show called 'Splash" where celebrities were trained to dive like professionals and were judged and scored each week.  He didn't win, but he came pretty close.

Anyway, here's "Bitchcraft" (Official lyric video):

I would love to see him again, hopefully he'll get back to Little Rock soon.

If you wanna see photos from when I saw him click here to be taken to my photography page.  If you want feel free to give it a "like" while you are there.

"Bitchcraft" is available on iTunes now!

Hey Bluebird On My Shoulder (Err Wrist) Can You Carry Me Over?

January 23rd I got my first tattoo; a bluebird on my wrist.  Done by Matt O'Baugh over at Black Cobra Tattoos. Matt did a really amazing job! I love it! (Click his name in the link above to see more of his work.)

Photos from my instagram: @laurenmikael

I've wanted this since I was 14.  So happy to finally have it now.  I put off getting it for a long time because I was afraid of how bad it would hurt.  Turns out it didn't hurt at all.  I actually liked the way it felt.

I've always heard that tattoos are addictive and I totally understand now.  I already want another one.  I have an idea of the next one I want.  Hopefully I can go back to Matt and get it done next month.

If you want to know why I got a bluebird read this

Another reason I got it is because of the song "Bluebird" by Cassie Steele (you may know her as the girl who plays Manny Santos on the TV show Degrassi: The Next Generation) I've always really liked this song.  Later I found out Bluebird is a code name for depressent drugs, such as Valium...which I take (prescribed of course.)

"Bluebird" by Cassie Steele:

Title of this post comes from this song.

It's kinda funny to me how bluebird has always followed me around in some way.

-laurenmikael

PS: If you like Cassie Steele, you can find her music on iTunes.
