Phillip Phillips' Debut Album

(Album cover)

Yesterday Phillip Phillips (winner of American Idol season 11) released his debut album  "The World from the Side of the Moon."

I'm listening to it right now on Spotify.  I love the sound of his voice, but so far there hasn't been anything too exciting to me about this album...although I am only on track 5 of 14 (15 if you count the live version of "Home" that is included.)  There haven't been any upbeat catchy tracks...yet.

Phillip is one of those artist like Daughtry in my opinion that never seems to change the tone of their voice, which if you read this blog often, you know I'm not a fan of. I like when the artist changes it up a little with every track.

What I've heard of Phillips' album is very laid back and calming.  There has yet to be a track that I have been amazed with.

Right now a tune entitled "Drive Me" is on, it is track number 8.  I really like this one.  It is the only one so far that has grabbed my attention.

If you are someone who likes slow, calming jazzy type music, (ie: Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, Adele or Michael Buble) you will probably really enjoy this album.  Whereas if you are like me and would rather listen to hard rock and punk music (ie: Crossfade, Pop Evil, Green Day or The Offspring) then "The World from the Side of the Moon" is mostly likely not the album for you.

The album is over now.  I only like 2 of the 14 tracks.  I don't think those are very good odds.  As I mentioned earlier I like "Drive Me" the other one I like is "Home" but to be honest that's not really saying much because that was the first single off of this album and it is beginning to become overplayed. Personally I don't see this album as one that is worth buying.

I was hoping to like this album more than I do.  Oh well.  Don't just take my word for it though...go give the album a listen for yourself.  Feel free to tell me if you like/or dislike it.  I would like to know your opinion on it.
