Phantom Planet

On August 5th 2008 Paramore had a show in Arkansas for the first and only time...so far.  Their bassist Jeremy Davis was actually born in Little Rock. (I have come to the conclusion that all of the best bassist are named Jeremy :) .) I don't like bands that have a female lead, Hayley Williams is my only exception.  She is amazing and she has great hair.

Paper Route, Phantom Planet, and Jack's Mannequin were the openers.  We (my friends Melody, Megan and Karissa) got to the show the minute Paper Route was leaving the stage.  I had never heard of Phantom Planet before, but I figured they would be good...judging by their awesome band name.  I was right.  They were different from any other band had ever heard of.  They put on a really amazing show.  Even though I didn't know any of the songs.  I honestly thought their set was the best of the night.

Next was Jack's Mannequin. I had always heard about them, but didn't start listening to their music until a few weeks before the show.  Finally it was time for Paramore.

Sadly I didn't have my camera because we heard that no cameras were allowed, I wanted to take mine anyway since people always do, regardless of the rules...but Melody talked me out of it because I had just bought a new camera and she didn't want me to get it taken away.  (Never again will I listen to that rule.) Everyone else had their cameras and I was sad because from where we were I could have gotten some really good pictures.

Paramore was great and I can't wait for them to come back one day.

Sorry this blog is probably a lot suckier than the the others, but as I said earlier this show was in '08 and to tell you the truth I don't remember that much about it.  It was an outdoors show, and we didn't meet anyone from any of the bands after.

The next night my family and I went out to eat at Flying Fish, then I insisted we go to Barnes and Noble so I could buy Phantom Planet's album "Raise The Dead"

On November 25th 2008 Phantom Planet announced on Myspace that they were going on an indefinite hiatus, after being together for 15 years.

Phantom Planet's guitarist Darren Robinson (not to be mistaken for the leader of rap group The Fat Boys) went on tour as a unofficial member with Miniature Tigers in 2009.  He is currently in a band called The Californian, who have an EP entitled "Sea Of Love" which you can listen to and buy on their website here. Hopefully one day The Californian will come to Arkansas and play a show.

For a while I was addicted to a game called Words With Friends, so when I found out Darren played too I had to start a game with him.  Little did I know he is like a freakin' Words With Friends champion.  We have played nine games and he has beat me every time but one.  The only reason I won that particular game is because I cheated. The first and only time I ever used an anagrams solver and he caught me. It's all good though, he forgave me.

In 1998 Phantom Planet was in an episode of the 3rd season of Sabrina The Teenage Witch

"Do The Panic"

"Lonely Day"

"Always On My Mind"

Phantom Planet's song "California" is the theme song for The O.C.

Their music is  featured in the movie Drive Me Crazy. They also did a cover of "Somebody's Baby" by Jackson Browne for Not Another Teen Movie.

  1. I'm a big fan of Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam, so maybe we could say that the best ones' names start with the letter J? ;P
